Dr. Chaoyang Jiang
Nanoscale Assembly of Plasmonic Materials

Unique optical performance of plasmonic materials offers superior potential for applications such as ultra sensitive chemical detector, board-range solar cells, and nano-electro-mechanical system. Research efforts in the laboratory of Dr. Chaoyang Jiang in the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Dakota are focused on the assembly and application of nanocomposite thin film and freestanding multilayer nanomembranes. Thin films containing a variety of functional nanostructures (metallic nanowires, semiconductor nanocrystals, near infrared quantum dots) will be studied and their wide applications will be explored.

Three members in his research group, including undergraduate students and graduate students, are currently working on several projects that include: development of novel explosive detector with SERS active nanomembrane; integration of cellulose nanocrystals into functional porous multilayer thin films, and assembly of lead sulfide quantum dots for high efficient solar cells.
