Tom Schumacher, Professor

Ph.D.Michigan State University 1982
M.S. Michigan State University 1979

Professor Schumacher teaches Environmental Soil Management (PS 362) and Crop Water Relations (ABS 704. Soil Physical Properties (PS 743) is team -taught with Dr. Robert Kohl. Research contributions include: 1) Development of improved methodology in root sampling and rhizosphere soil analysis. 2) Application of models/experiments to quantify soil erosion – productivity relationships. 3) Evaluation of returning Conservation Reserve Program lands to crop production. 4) Evaluation of landscape effects on soil properties and yield. and 5) Work in tillage erosion. Research is also conducted in the areas of soil conservation and management, and in the interaction of soil physical properties with the biological components of soils.
