Thomas Chase,
Associate Professor  

Ph.D. University of Vermont 1986

Dr. Chase conducts research and teaching in the fields of plant pathology and fungal genetics. Basic research interests include the population genetics of plant pathogens, PCR-based molecular diagnostics, and the genetics of horizontal pathosystems. Research projects currently focus on diseases of soybean, including Phytophthora root & stem rot, as well as stem canker and the Diaporthe/Phomopsis complex. Projects encompass genetic, pathogenic and molecular variability in field populations of pathogens as well as screening of soybean lines and varieties for resistance. an internet-assisted course, as well as graduate courses in plant
                                         pathology and mycology.
Dr. Chase serves on the NCR-137 (Soybean Diseases) Committee and is the webmaster for the Plant Science Department.
