Dr. Cynthia Anderson (right), program director for the BRIN project at BHSU, instructs Shayna Holmes (left), a biology major from Belle Fourche, on DNA testing techniques. BHSU, in partnership with several other South Dakota universities, will participate in a $16.1 million grant from the South Dakota Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (SD BRIN) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The University of South Dakota in Vermillion is serving as the lead institution; BHSU is designated as a mentor institution and will receive $2.5 million. BHSU was recently designated the core facility for DNA Sequencing and Genotyping. The BRIN grant will provide further research opportunities for faculty and students at BHSU while building a research infrastructure for the state and region.
